Pope Benedict to resign at the end of the month, Vatican says

The spiritual leader of 1.2 billion Catholics, Pope Benedict XVI, surprised the world Monday by saying will resign at the end of the month "because of advanced age."

It's the first time a pope has resigned in nearly 600 years.

"Strength of mind and body are necessary, strength which in the last few months has deteriorated in me to the extent that I have had to recognize my incapacity to adequately fulfill the ministry entrusted to me," the pope said, according to the Vatican.

After Benedict's resignation becomes effective on February 28, cardinals will meet to choose a new leader for the church.

Does this set the stage for the "last pope"? Amazing how fast things are turning. Note the comment in the story -- "the first time in 600 years" -- and now the end begins?

last pope

That was the first thought I had when I heard this. I do not believe in prophecies outside of the bible, but for this to happen at this time wow! We must be so very close! See you soon brothers and sisters!

Biography

Cardinal Peter Turkson. (Peter the Roman?)

He is currently a 9/4 favorite according to some websites. Notice the last paragraph.

Biography of Cardinal Turkson

Cardinal Peter Turkson, a Ghanaian, is president of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace. He has been considered 'papabile' since he was appointed to this post by Benedict XVI in 2009 amid speculation that the next pope would probably be from Africa as part of the Catholic church's attempts to modernise and reach out to a huge Catholic congregation from the Sahel southwards.

Peter Turkson was born in western Ghana to a Methodist mother and Catholic father. As a boy in the seminary he was considered far too boisterous to be content in a contemplative, solemn career in the church.

But he was reportedly begged by his mother to knuckle down and study hard to become a priest, and he did so well he was chosen to move to the US to study at St Anthony-on-Hudson Seminary in Rensselaer, New York, and he was ordained as a priest in 1975.

Returning to Ghana, he became a professor at St Teresa's Seminary, near where he grew up, and dedicated himself to academia as well as performing pastoral work in the local area.

In 1992 he was appointed Archbishop of Cape Coast by Pope John Paul II and served as president of the Ghana Catholic Bishops' Conference from 1997 to 2005.

It was during this time, in 2003, when Pope John Paul made him the first ever Ghanaian cardinal and his influence was extended by Pope Benedict XVI, who appointed him president of the Ponitifical Council for Justice and Peace, a role which sent him around the world mediating in countries such as the Ivory Coast in 2011.

In October of that year he called for the establishment of a 'global public authority' and a 'central world bank' and has come out in favour of a Robin Hood-style tax on large financial transactions. When he visited Britain with Pope Benedict in 2010 he was singled out as a possible successor.

Interesting..

Interesting that Cardinal Peter Turkson was born October 11, 1948 the same year Israel was re-established as a nation. Probably coincidence but interesting none the less...

March

What I'm finding VERY interesting is that a new pope will be elected in March, and isn't John Kerry going to Israel in March to "carry out Obama's vision" around the world followed by Obama with some new negotiation to get the Israelites to hand over more of their God given birthright? All of this happening right around Passover too....It'll be interesting to see what unfolds, and after our mighty leader does this, what form of judgement God will use on America. I went through Katrina, I felt firsthand God's wrath on a nation that chooses to divide Israel, I don't think our leaders are going to learn their lesson till they experience it firsthand...

God's Wrath?

Do not be misled. No one on earth today has experienced God's Wrath. Read Matthew 18. One should consider themselves lucky to lose the sight of one eye than to have them both burn in fire. God's wrath is at the time of his return.

I'm sorry, but I don't quite

I'm sorry, but I don't quite understand what you are getting at. What does Matthew 18 have to do with what you are trying to tell me? Romans 1:18, "For the wrath of God is revealed from Heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who hold the truth in unrighteousness." Katrina formed right after the Israelites in Gaza were kicked out. Not to mention the Southern Decadence festival that was going on in New Orleans at the time, if the storm wasn't God's anger, then what was it? It sure felt like it at the time...

Simply put.....

We are not appointed to God's Wrath. Sure , if you stood against the storm, you felt its wind. You did not experience wrath. Thousands of tornados have ripped through our countries mid section, not because of wrath, but because of prophecy.

Of Matthew 18, sorry wrong comparison. I get confused at times with the different parts of the bible that I am studying all at the same time.

Judgement?

I aoppreciate your clarification, and I think that you just helped a puzzle piece fall into place for me on something that I've been studying on, so would Katrina have been a judgement? and is judgement different than wrath?

We must all be very watchful for signs and witnesses are presented almost daily. I have not seen very much posted in the news, but 7.0 mag earthquakes have happened each week since the first of the year. The bible says for each prophecy there are 2 or more witnesses. Indonesia-Tsunami & Earthquake, Japan-Tsunami & Earthquake, Santa Cruz-Tsunami & Earthquake. Two important individual are to travel to Israel around March 20th. Some speculation surrounds the date of 3-22 to be of significant importance to our current timeframe. Why now all of a sudden does our administration feel it needed to make the journey to Israel. Both Obama and Kerry belong to a secret brotherhood. Also my brother and I have been using the phrase MARANATHA!!! with each other and others more frequently as of lately. Just the other day at the store, I turned to pick up a jar of Almond Butter and the brand name was Maranatha!!!

There are more witnesses in the skies above, the Blood red tetrads of the moon that are to occur in 2014 and 2015 will fall on holy days and feast days for both of the years. By using solar and lunar calculators I have confirmed as many others have also that this has never occured before and never will ever again. Coincidence? I think not. MARANATHA!!!! Oh Lord, come Quickly!!!

Peter the Roman

St Malachy's prophecies have been extremely accurate, and the fact that there has not been a pope named Peter since the Apostle Peter, would be very fitting and ironic that it would end this way since Jesus did say to Peter that upon this Rock( his declaration of Jesus being the Son of God) he would build his church. Seems to me that the age of the Gentiles which has been primarily made of gentile believers would end with this declaration and with a Pope named Peter. Keep your eye on this Cardinal Peter Turkson, my best guess is he's the man, we'll know by the end of March 2013 if he is elected.

Lightning

Lightning strikes the basilica of St. Peter's Dome the same day of the announcement. Whoa, interesting! Did someone make this up? We shall see.

Something From Hal Lindsey

http://www.hallindsey.com/videos/#

I found this useful.
And also with the Comment of using maranatha more in conversation, both my fiance and I have been using that word a lot as well.
