Rep. Charles Rangel Introduces H.R. 5741, aka "Slavery Bill"

This will be a very tough sell, considering that the US is involved in two separate military conflicts, neither of which has a coherent victory condition or exit strategy. In voting on this issue, Representatives should keep both ears on their constituencies, since HR 5741 is the sort of vote that can cost a politician his or her job if he or she misreads constituent opinion.

The blogosphere is in an uproar over the Universal National Service Act, calling it "the Slavery Bill", as it includes no language for any sort of compensation for these two years of service; this becomes important if the nation in question is going through a recession (which the US is at the moment).

The last time the USA had any sort of conscription or mandatory service was 1973, when Selective Service (aka "the draft") was discontinued.

This is most likely the beginning of the "Citizen Army" promised by BHO.

Thats what it is. All we can do is pray. I think they know that come November that they may be short on numbers for votes so why not push all the junk we can while we can. But, the question is, we people stand against it when thier is a knock on the door and the person on the other side wants thier kids or them. Looks like another flash point to me.
