Americans make up half of the world's richest 1%

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- The United States holds a disproportionate amount of the world's rich people.

It only takes $34,000 a year, after taxes, to be among the richest 1% in the world. That's for each person living under the same roof, including children. (So a family of four, for example, needs to make $136,000.)

So where do these lucky rich people live? As of 2005 -- the most recent data available -- about half of them, or 29 million lived in the United States, according to calculations by World Bank economist Branko Milanovic in his book The Haves and the Have-Nots.

Luke 18: 22-24 (KJV) comes to mind. Maybe this could play a role during America's judgement?

Wealth and discipleship

This keeps on popping up in my studies and prayers whenever I read the Holy Bible. I have much, I have been blessed with much, and would love nothing more than to forsake it all and follow in the footsteps of Christ. Literally get a staff, a coat, and the Word and travel preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Never in my life have I felt such a strong urge. This post is not meant to sound like some far-left social gospel preaching, but a literal suggestion and legitimate question. The stats don't sit right with my soul. Where are your scars?

This is where I have my treasures

But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal.Matthew 6:20

Currently mine are in a bank

Currently mine are in a bank account, anyone... name any charities?
I don't like having it in my name, I want to pitch all of it.
James 5:1 (KJV) is calling me to repentance.

Please carefully seek the

Please carefully seek the LORD over a period of time before disbursing what God has put into your hands for your considered stewardship...not based on emotion or guilt or theater but Holy Spirit mature / guiding inspiritation / fruitful directed sowing to the kingdom, if confirmed over a period of time by counsel... Isa 9:6

The most valuable thing to God is belief in His Living Word ... 2Tim4:1-3 ... Pauls last instruction ... be looking to find people & ministries that meet these criteria ... in Truth with a track record of integrity / maturity / fruitfulness / good soil ... and if you are willing to meet them yourself Php 4:4-9... then be willing to consider yourself a ministry with God's wonderful advance provisional resourses to sustain your discipleship over a period of time ...

Good Advice Shama

Joseph, Abraham, Jacob, and Daniel come to mind... to name a few. I think the NT message about wealth is more geared to salvation (riches standing between you and the Lord) and the love of money. If he builds you up, then he will put on your heart what he wants you to do with it.

EXACTLY

FTGF have you considered that God may have increased you for a specific reason? Boaz was a wealthy man, David and Solomon were, what about Abraham and Jacob too as our brothers remind us...
God may have a specific use for you that requires you to be financially secure. Don't disregard what has been given. Although it is good to see that you do not cling to the worldly treasure as if you would die without it. Still, what has been given will have a specific purpose I am sure. Seek the Lord in it. Ask Him. He will direct you. Don't shun His good will. Think of the woman who brought the oil in and poured the fragarent oil on Jesus's feet. remember that Judas was furious at the waste of money but the woman used it for edifying Christ... She annointed His feet as He said it was in preperation for His death. Jesus also told them they would always have the poor but He would not always be there with them and that she was doing good to Him. She poured the equivalent ( I believe I remember being taught) of what would today be the purchase of a home. The perfumed oil was that precious.
So the woman could have given all her wealth away but she did not she used it for Christ. As for your money and what you use it for... Im sure any charity would be happy to have it but that may not be God's will. Carefully consider and wait on the Lord to lead. I know you are Zealous with a fire to work but the Bible wants us to be wise as serpents and gentle as doves. So be wise with the money or possessions you have been given. They are not hindering your faith are they? If not, then the money or possessions are not bad. Whether that is lving a good wholesome life or being called to cast it upon the water and await His ten fold blessing... Just pray carefully and await the soft calm prompting of the Lord lest you be misled or act on your own and thereby cause undo suffering for yourself as a result. Peace be Still... That's what He says to us. :)

as if the goodness we have is a strangulation when you see others in such need. BUT, pls do not feel bad about the blessings God has bestowed upon you. I feel certain that you are someone who, like the Good Samaritan, shares and helps others and that His blessings become their blessings thru you every day. rest in Him and do as He leads. this is what I am trying to do.
