The Circle Maker?

I was asked by a fellow believer tonight what I thought about this new book that's come out: The Circle Maker. That was a new one on me. Haven't heard of it. I read an article about it and the author after she asked; looked it up. Have some questions running around in my head as a result.

Have any of you heard of it yet, or better yet, read it? Or is it new to you as well? Like to keep abreast of this stuff...

The Circle Maker is

a book which talks about a prophet of Israel who drew a circle and entered inside and began to ray to God for rain to heal the dry period Israel had been going through. He prayed to God and stated he wouldn't leave the circle until God heard and answered his prayer. The rain began to fall, then began to saturate the land. The Sanhedrin court tried to bring him up on charges of blasphemy, but. They couldn't due to the very fact that his prayer was answered!

This is all in the opening chapter...this is all in the PDF file that you can read as a sample. The remainder of the book talks of others since then throughout history who have drawn a circle around specific places, people, or things, to beg seeking an answer to prayer.

It looks like a great book t get and read!

THIS IS A POTENTIAL PATH TO

THIS IS A POTENTIAL PATH TO NEW AGE MYSTICISM. STAY AWAY FROM IT. IT IS NOT SUPPORTED ANYWHERE IN SCRIPTURE, TO PRAY INSIDE A CIRCLE. CHECK OUT THIS LINK FOR FURTHER INFO. http://www.empoweredbychrist.org/6/post/2011/11/the-unbiblical-circle-maker-mark-batterson.html

I would agree...

Believer. It seems too... idk... too witchcrafty for lack of a better word. Like we are using a ring of 'protection' then beginning an incantation (prayer) for what we are desiring to happen. It makes me think of that Prayer of Jabez thing that went around a while back. Just pray the Prayer of Jabez and you too will be blessed.
We are blessed every time we utter a praise to the Lord. We are blessed to even be allowed to address Him at all. So, I dont put too much stock in hocus pocus types of rub the Bible get a wish type of books promising that this worked for this person and if u use the same formula it will work for you. God isnt manipulated by some rout words used to coerce Him to act. He is moved by first if it fits with His divine purpose and His will and second if it is the best outcome for you or in His plans for you. He will never give us just because we want cause let's face it sometimes our wants get us into big trouble. He will decide in His time what to give, what to take, what to answer and what to be silent on and who are we, oh clay, to dictate to the Potter what He shall make of us or not. It is not for us to question His works or His with-holding hand...
We are to remember this... "He hath shown thee, O Man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy and to walk humbly with thy God?" Micah 6:8

I thought

Jesus was the last of the Prophets...and I dont recall reading anywhere in the Old Testament about a prophet doing this. Another quick note. We dont put stipulations on God so that he answeres our prayers. We ASK him because he is our Father. I can only imagine what would happen if my son threw himself down and said Im not moving till you buy me this think I want. I think thats called a temper tamptrum here in the south. I know what he would get, and it wouldnt be what he wanted.

LOL, I said the exact same

LOL, I said the exact same thing to my friend who asked me about the book...prayer of Jabez. Which didn't start out bad, it's Scriptural, but people turned it into a prosperity thing.

This seems gimmicky at a time when discernment is so vital; and the guy comes from a community church, which always makes me nervous. Most are emergent. And the "prophet" that he's writing about is from folklore, not Scripture.

To be fair, the author said in an article about the book that it wasn't about physically drawing a circle around a prayer request. It was about beseeching God in prayer. He also said God was not Santa Claus figure; that we were to pray His Will. That made me feel better about him. I write my prayer requests on index cards with certain Scripture pertaining to them and pray them sometime. I don't think there's anything wrong with that at all. BUT, my caution flew up for unknown reasons. Just wanted to see what my brothers/sisters thought. Thanks for your input, all. It's something to watch...

I agree we you, Medicnh, that

I agree we you, Medicnh, that we ask our Father. But maybe there's a difference between a temper tantrum and beseeching God? (not that I'm endorsing this book, but a Scripture came to mind when I was thinking about this). I remember in Scripture where Moses/Israelites refused to move their encampment unless the Lord traveled with them. I think it comes down to God knowing our hearts in prayer.

I repeated this Scripture in a terrifying time in my life, while in prayer with God. Told Him that I accepted His Will in my life in the present situation, but His Presence along the road was absolutely a must for me. That His Presence was enough. I said I refused to move my encampment unless He was with me. My heart was crying out to Him in a way I never had before; bereft. And He IMMEDIATELY answered me through a very shocking thing that transpired. My jaw was on the ground, as was my husband's. He was so clearly answering my prayer, my beseeching prayer. It was beautiful.
