First point them to Rev 1:11 that says I am alpha and omega the first and the last..Second ask them who is the first and the last, who is speaking. Every JW will say Jehovah based on old testament verses such as Isaiah 44:6 I am the first and I am the last, Isaiah 48:12, I am he. Third then point them to Rev 1:17 , I am the first and the last, Rev 1: 18 says I am he that liveth, and was dead; and behold, Iam alive forever more. Fourth ask them when was Jehovah dead they then realize that Jesus Christ was , "God manifest in the flesh", because that comes from 1Timothy 3:16. Do not read from NIV as this is close to their New World Translation.

I am praying for you because my once-JW friend liked to argue about this and I was unable to satisfy her with my answers. she is an ex-JW now, having returned to her agnosticism, cuz they were pressuring her to get rid of her well-loved cats and non-JW friends! I always pray for her as she has no faith or light in her life. no Jesus.

There are plenty of them, do a word search in bible gateway, use the king james version.

people refuse Christ out of fear of change sometimes? Fear of 'measuring up'? Or simply from misinformation they have received. I know and you know that Jesus doesnt expect us to be HIM we are not expected to be perfect. We are expected to follow in His example but thats why the plan of salvation was made and why He died on a cross because there is NO way we CAN be perfect. I have talked to some lost people who told me flat out that they can't be good enough or can't do all that the Bible requires of them. They like their lives and giving up everything that makes them- well them- is too painful or too much to be asked. But I have found no matter my arguments or attempts at persuasion they cling stubbornly to their sin filled and lightless lives. They search for an alternative to Christ but yet long for eternal security. They are looking for the one that will let them keep their ways and yet get into heaven. Sad.
At any rate, JW like Mormans often dont know scripture and when they are presented with it they fold. My dad had two young men in our home... I remember they were very polite and neat. Dad laid out the plan of salvation, explained in detail who Christ was, what He did and How He loved us. One of the boys broke down and cried. He wanted to be saved. The other got angry at this traveling companion and left but in a few days he was back arguing and questioning my dad. That second young man met Christ too btw. It is possible to convert these souls to Christ. Prayerful consideration and letting the Spirit speak to these people instead of trying to come up with what to say to them on our own makes a huge difference.

well, my friend is a very gentle and intelligent soul, and one who places high value on man's intelligence. she lived alone in a house falling down upon her, eating those fluorescent orange PB crackers most of her life. she also had 27 stray cats. she always needed help trying to keep her house from caving in, etc., and one day the JWs drove up and stepped into the void. she was taken with their generous help and soon began going to their meetings. she was told it was best not to mingle with unbelievers and wistfully told me so. as time went on, they saw that her love and care for her cats was interfering with her mtg attendance and her becoming a full-blown JW. it was an awful struggle for her to separate from her new "friends," having come from an unbelieving family and having always and forever, in her own way, been in search of God. but, she did split from them and now blames them for "trashing" any chance she ever had with God. yes, there are clearly longstanding psychological/emotional factors at work here, but, it is heartbreaking for anyone to live in stunted darkness. pls pray for my friend, too. thanx.

Thanks firepig and I will pray for your friend. I find it interesting that most people who come out of JW, Mormon, and Catholic religions are so turned off to God that they wont even listen even if you are a close friend trying to have a conversation about it. They assume all religions are the same and I think that's how Satan has planned it.

and all three employ a variation of the stockholm syndrome and seem to me to be more OTHER-oriented than GOD-oriented.

Notice the very first verse of John it says:

In [the] beginning the Word was, and the Word was with God, and the Word was a god.

This is the foundation of their belief that Jesus was God's first creation. Did you notice the last two words and how they differ from our Bible? This is because of a translation error from the Greek to English. To successfully argue this point, you have know a little Greek and how they structure their language. Plus that fact that this translation totally contradicts the rest of what John says about Jesus.

My neighbor is Mormon and has tried to teach me her ways in which she wanted to mentor me into their belief. But praise God being strong in the word...and btw still learning... I was able to question her belief and put her on the defending which boiled down to her telling me she should not get into a debate because she did not want to argue or defend her belief. (me... we were arguing???) I was looking forward to a debate in which we both presented sides to our belief? ...guess not... I tend to see this a spiritual warfare and have been in it before. Both times the other person has run. My daughter was in one in which the person wrote her back saying she( my daughter) did not win but no longer wanted her to email them again.. I told my daughter, get use to that. They run when exposed to light. Many do and others just get down right hateful and ugly with name calling where there is no end in site. I feel sorry for them. :o(

I always notice they try to outnumber you. See if next time you can have someone else stand with you. Do some research on them if you can and then compare that with what you know the bible says.
